5 easy things you can grow in your home and garden from Clean n Restore.

After looking at all the incredible photos leading up to the Bibury Village Open Gardens Day Sunday 25th May 2014 we have rounded up, 5 easy things you can grow in your home and garden to improve your green-fingered skills, and help the environment by growing some of your own produce, safe in the knowledge it is free from pesticides and any other harmful products that may be used in commercial agriculture.
Lavender
This plant is so great it has a colour named after it. The beautiful smell of lavender is perfect to greet guests, put by windows or doors so you get a lovely waft every time you walk by. This is great for taking clippings and putting in cases around the house. Lavender has antibacterial properties and is commonly used to in oil form or used to scent balms to help with sleep.
Herbs
Potted herbs can be so much fun. Using your own fresh herbs can really bring your cooking to life, nothing beats that fresh hit of flavour that dry herbs just cannot match. These are relatively easy to maintain. Water when needed, keep on a windowsill out of the way and pick the biggest leaves from the top so the smaller ones can grow! Trim the stems as need just above the little buds so the new leaves can come through.
Sweet peas
These delicious plants thrive next to most plants in your garden. The flowers smell divine and make great scented water. Pick the sweat peas off when you have a BBQ and throw in your salads.
Sunflowers
These are great to grow with kids. Give them one each and put by a wall or tie to a cane in the pot as they tend to lean! Obviously these need to go in a sunny spot. They cheer up any garden and get the kids interested in leaving the sofa and getting outside!
Potatos
If you have a patch of garden that you are stuck with knowing what to do, plant some potatoes while you decide. These are relatively hardy vegetables and it is really rewarding using them in cooking. Bake them in the oven, or if you are feeling brave, wrap well in foil and put on the coals to bake on the BBQ.
